Miles of Smiles 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk

This very fun event will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 9:00a.m. 

Packet PickUp will be Friday 5/13 from 5-7:00 &

on Saturday starting at 7:30.  

The race start and finish line will be at Pinebrook Elementary School in Aldie, Virginia.

I wanted to help raise awareness and find companies that would love to either sponsor or donate a product to be raffled off to this cause. For those of you who do not know about Williams Syndrome: 

Williams Syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting 1 in 10,000 births, discovered as a distinct entity in 1961.  It is estimated that more than 30,000 people in the United States have Williams Syndrome. Individuals with WS are missing 26-28 genes on one copy of chromosome #7, one of which is the gene that produces elastin, a protein that allows blood vessels and other tissues in the body to stretch.  As a result, more than 75% of individuals have mild to severe cardiovascular problems.

Most people with WS share common facial features, as well as a cascade of medical, neurological and behavioral characteristics.

Medical characteristics include:

• Feeding difficulties & reflux
• Cardiovascular disorders
• Gastro-intestinal issues
• Curvature of the spine
• Neurological and cognitive difficulties include:
• Developmental delays
• Poor motor skills
• Hyper-sensitive hearing
• Learning disabilities
